Dr. Wazir Ali

Biography

Dr. Wazir Ali holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in Natural Language Processing from the Statistical Machine Intelligence and Learning (SMILE) Lab at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. He also earned a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Shah Abdul Latif University. In addition, he holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree. Dr. Wazir Ali has more than five years of teaching, research, and academic administration experience in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Mining, Big Data Analytics, Information Retrieval, and Natural Language Processing. He is an AI trainer and a Certified STEAM educator with extensive experience in curriculum development, academic leadership, and research supervision. Currently, he serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science at Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology and also holds the position of Manager ORIC (Commercialization) at the same university. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor, Head of the Data Science Program, Head of Research, and Secretary of the Board of Studies and Board of Faculty at the College of Computer Science and Information Systems, Institute of Business Management. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the TurkuNLP Group at the University of Turku. Dr. Wazir Ali is an Associate Editor of the Pakistan Journal of Engineering, Technology and Science and serves as a Member of the Board of Studies at Newports Institute of Communications and Economics and DHA Suffa University for BS Artificial Intelligence and BS Data Science programs. He successfully completed a fully funded 15-day advanced training program on Artificial Intelligence organized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in collaboration with the China Association of Higher Education under the CPEC Consortium of Universities initiative. He has also been actively involved in faculty development programs and AI capacity-building initiatives. Dr. Wazir Ali has been invited as a keynote speaker, panelist, trainer, and evaluator at numerous national and international academic events. He delivered a keynote talk on “Singularity” at the 1st MiTE International Conference on Evolving Technologies in Computing held in Karachi and participated as a panelist at the 2nd NLP Karachi Symposium organized by Muhammad Ali Jinnah University. He has also appeared as an invited guest on Pakistan Television Corporation and Awaz TV to discuss Artificial Intelligence and modern education. Throughout his academic career, he has supervised more than 30 Final Year Projects, MS scholars, and a Ph.D. scholar. His research focuses on Natural Language Processing, low-resource language technologies, large language models, Sindhi and Urdu language resources, question answering systems, and AI-driven educational technologies. His research articles have been published in leading international venues including the Association for Computational Linguistics conferences, Workshop on Computational Approaches to Subjectivity and Sentiment Analysis (WASSA), Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing (RANLP), and the Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC). He received a travel grant to present his research at LREC in Palma, Spain. Dr. Wazir Ali has received several academic awards and recognitions, including: Grant for the 15-day “Future Ready Academic Leadership: Governance Innovation and AI Integration in Higher Education” program funded by the China Association of Higher Education and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Nomination for Best Paper Award at the Student Workshop of the Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing Conference 2021. Ph.D. Travel Grant from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Fully funded Ph.D. scholarship from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. He actively contributes to the global research community as an invited reviewer for prestigious journals including Artificial Intelligence Review, IEEE Access, Scientific Reports, Applied Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, Pattern Analysis and Applications, and the International Journal of Machine Learning and Cybernetics. He also reviews for ACL-indexed conferences and the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN). Dr. Wazir Ali is a professional member of the Association for Computational Linguistics and the International Neural Network Society. His contributions to AI education, research, and academic leadership continue to play a significant role in advancing Artificial Intelligence and Data Science education in Pakistan.
