Introduction

The Department of Artificial Intelligence has been established under the umbrella of the Faculty of Science, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology, Nawabshah in 2021 by keeping in view the increasing demand of this field of study around the globe. The Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.

The AI technologies are nowadays used in healthcare, automobiles, finance, surveillance, social media, entertainment, education, space exploration, gaming, robotics and agriculture. The ultimate goal of artificial intelligence is to create computer programs that can solve real-world problems and achieve goals like human beings. The major areas of AI include machine learning, neural networks, computer vision, robotics, natural language processing, expert systems and speech processing.

The Department is well equipped with advanced computer laboratories and qualified faculty. Currently, there are six (06) foreign qualified PhD faculty members in the Department, who are experts in the AI domain. Some faculty members are pursuing PhD degree in AI in well reputed international universities and are expected to join the department in near future. The PhD faculty in the department have strong academic collaborations with national/international institutions. This linkage is helpful for the exchange of students to other national/international institutions. The government of Pakistan is also encouraging and supporting the institutions offering degree in AI.

The Department of AI currently offers a 4-year degree program in Bachelor of Science (Artificial Intelligence). We are looking forward to launching Master and Ph.D. programs in artificial intelligence very soon.

To produce AI professionals equipped with sound professional knowledge and capable of developing intelligent computational systems with the passion of lifelong learning and the ability of contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

Chairman's Message

Artificial Intelligence is an approach to make a computer, a robot, or a product to think how smart humans think. It is one of the fastest-growing fields in computer science which finds applications in almost all domains.

The aim of the 4-year BS(AI) program in QUEST, Nawabshah is to produce skilled professionals by imparting state-of-the-art knowledge of theories, practices, and applications of artificial intelligence. Along the way, we also aim to excite the students about the numerous applications and huge possibilities in the field of AI, which continues to expand human capability beyond our imagination.

The department of Artificial Intelligence, QUEST, Nawabshah is actively involved in research on diverse domains in artificial intelligence including image/video understanding, sentiment analysis, action recognition, speech recognition, biometrics recognition, cyber security, to name a few. We also have industrial collaboration and linkages with foreign research institutes to develop intelligent solutions.

We are working on the development of interesting, intelligent applications which can benefit s ociety in a variety of ways. Our BS(AI) program is also focused on refining the capabilities of students to develop such applications and contribute to the scientific community.
